The daughter of Shannon Kepler testified Friday morning in her father's murder trial.
Lisa Kepler was supposed to testify Thursday, but after what she described as anxiety attacks on the stand, she was unable to continue.
Kepler testified Friday her father was aggressive towards her at home and once restrained her by the throat to prevent her from leaving. In describing the conditions at home, she said "I didn't want to be there. The homeless shelter was freedom. I shouldn't have to feel like a hostage in some place called home."
Kepler blamed her anxiety Thursday on the stress of testifying about her short term boyfriend's murder, and postpartum depression. She said she had recently had a baby. She said from the stand, "This isn't something I wanted to relive, but I have to be here."
Kepler was questioned about whether she actually saw her father fire the fatal shots, or whether it was too dark at the scene. She said she saw her father just before the shots were fired, but had her back turned at the instant she heard the shots and saw him pull away.
In a 911 call played in court, she told dispatchers her father was a police officer and had just shot her boyfriend. Jeremey Lake, 19, was shot twice and died August 5th, 2014.
Lake's brother, 15-year-old Michael Hamilton, also testified Friday.
The teen had perhaps the best view of what happened, saying he was no more than 30 feet away when he saw Shannon Kepler fire two shots into his brother.
Shannon Kepler is charged with murder and two counts of shooting with intent to kill over shots fired in the direction of his daughter and Michael Hamilton, the dead man's brother.
The trial continues Monday and is expected to go through part of next week before going to the jury for a decision.
