Atoka County authorities charged a former Daisy Volunteer Fire Department assistant chief and her daughter for embezzling more than $60,000 in sales tax funding.
After more than a year of investigation by local and state officials, Evelyn Kay Glover, 64, of Daisy and her daughter Krystal Cox, 41, of McAlester were arrested on Tuesday.
Daisy is located south of McAlester.
Officials told KXII, the CBS affiliate in Sherman, Texas, an investigation was started after a state auditor raised concerns about irregularities with Glover's purchases for the department, and Glover left soon after.
The money was part of a half-cent sales tax fund meant for fire protection.
Officials say the two women are accused of forging signatures to buy fuel, fix their own vehicles, tires for their own cars and even a wood stove for Glover's home.
