The Oklahoma Highway Patrol released video from the air and on the ground of the chase and deadly shootout with murder suspect Michael Vance.
Vance, 38, was shot and killed by OHP troopers on Sunday evening, ending Vance’s alleged violent rampage that began on October 23. Vance was wanted on multiple charges, including two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his relatives, Ronald and Valerie Wilkson in Luther, Oklahoma.
Tuesday, troopers said the video shows what unfolded about 20 minutes after Vance shot the Dewey County sheriff.
Vance is part of a rolling gun battle with an OHP trooper until he dies in the middle of a dusty Custer County road.
The manhunt for Vance ended with Trooper Brian Constanza firing an M-4 assault rifle through his shattered windshield while chasing Vance down a dirt road.
Seconds earlier, Vance raced through a road block - recorded on the ground and in the air.
As the chase moved along a rural road in Custer County, you can see, in the video, bullets bouncing off the back of Vance's truck.
"Most gun battles two or three rounds are exchanged, obviously that was not the case here,” they said at Tuesday news conference.
After exchanging gunfire with troopers, Vance jumps out of the truck and, you can see from the helicopter video, he uses the front as cover, but eventually the truck veers to the side of the road, leaving Vance vulnerable.
The rest of the follow up troopers joined in the firing until certain that Vance was finished off.
The OHP released videos taken from the OHP helicopter and patrol vehicles during troopers' shootout with Vance. In one of those dashcam videos, one OHP trooper could be seen shooting through his windshield during the gunfight with Vance.
We have attached those videos to this story.
