In their first report of 2016-2017 flu season, state health officials say eight people were hospitalized over the past week due to the illness.
The Oklahoma State Department of Health says the season began October 2nd and is expected to run through the end of May 2017.
The eight flu hospitalizations were in seven counties.
Every Thursday morning, the OSDH releases its weekly influenza report. It lists hospitalizations and deaths due to influenza by county.
During the 2015-2016 flu season, the OSDH reported 552 hospitalizations and 13 deaths.
