Tulsa Public Schools is investigating an anonymous threat similar to other rumors of “threatening clowns” that have popped up all over the country.
The unspecified threat was confirmed by the district to be against a student at Hale Junior High.
The district said the threat connected the school was first reported to Tulsa police, who passed on the information to Tulsa Public Schools and campus police.
At both the nearby Hale high school and the junior high, the school day continued as usual while the district said it was working to ensure the safety of the students.
TPS would not make anyone available to speak about the nature of the threat or the response to it, but Tulsa police said the report came in from a parent passing along a Facebook post received by a student.
Several schools sent out alerts to parents to address the rumors.
East Central also notified parents saying, "We have investigated and found these threats to be untrue."
Outside the doors, a sheriff's deputies’ vehicle and a campus police car were spotted, but it wasn't clear why they were there.
Jenks notified parents the district "found no evidence that any threat exists" and encouraged parents to remind children to use social media responsibly.
The district said though several schools notified parents the threat wasn't believed credible, the only actual school mentioned was Hale Junior High.
