NAACP National President and CEO Cornell William Brooks is scheduled to speak to community members in light of the recent shooting of Terence Crutcher and the arrest of Tulsa Police Officer Betty Shelby.
NAACP Oklahoma President Anthony Douglas was also scheduled to speak.
The discussion was held Sunday evening at Morning Star Baptist Church at 1014 East Pine Street.
The NAACP is in Tulsa to discuss the "plague of shootings" of unarmed African American men and women across America.
"We in Tulsa are now faced with dealing with our own tragedy -- the shooting of unarmed Terrence Crutcher. We thank the greater Tulsa community for respecting the pain of our African American community. We thank the Tulsa Police Department for the transparency shown in handling the case," the NAACP wrote in a news release.
The NAACP said now is the time to "speak justice and seek peace" and come together as a community to work together for resolutions.
The event was sponsored by the Tulsa Chapter of the NAACP.
