Tulsa Police Urge Citizens To Be Proactive To Prevent Car Burglaries

The Tulsa Police Department said Thursday it continues to investigate a high number of vehicle burglaries.

"As the holiday season approaches, the department would like to remind our citizens that many of these burglaries are crimes of opportunity," TPD stated in a media release.

Police said in several recent vehicle burglaries, the suspects have gained entry by opening unlocked doors when they see valuables in plain sight. In other vehicle burglaries, the suspects are breaking windows when they see valuables in plain sight.

"Burglary from vehicle prevention starts by limiting the criminal's opportunity to commit the crime and it can be accomplished with very little time and effort," police said. "Leaving your valuables in your vehicle instantly makes your car a target for thieves. It only takes a few seconds for thieves to break into your vehicle and steal your valuables. Take a few seconds to prevent vehicle burglaries by removing any valuables and securing your vehicle."
