A man was stabbed to death overnight in Owasso at a home near 116th and North Garnett. Police have arrested the man they believe did it.
David Ellis was arrested on murder charges in Owasso's first homicide of the year. The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Michael Shane Floyd.
Police say they arrived just before 1 a.m. Thursday, September 15, 2016, to find a man dead inside a house with multiple stab wounds. Witnesses told officers the suspect, 60-year-old David Wayne Ellis, ran away after the stabbing.
Officers tracked him down in a field not far from the house and took him into custody, according to Deputy Chief of Police Jason Woodruff.
Authorities said they've learned there was a gathering at the home, and Ellis and the other man got into an argument.
Neighbors said the homicide will leave a stain on their community.
"You'd think, 'yeah, definitely, people aren't going to see that house the same,'" said Shane Thompson.
Ethen Phillips said he was caught off guard seeing so many officers watching as the medical examiner took the body out of his neighbor's house.
"Usually, it's just quiet," he said. "Usually, you'll see every once in a while, arguments in other houses and you'll see - just normal days."
Thompson said officers spend a lot of time in his neighborhood but never with anything like this.
"We got a 10-year-old son we try to take into account, but we're really big on the second amendment so we take care of ourselves as well," he said.
Police are continuing the investigation into Floyd's death.
