A Tulsa man had to have his legs amputated below the knees after he was hit by a car Sunday evening.

Police responded to the auto-pedestrian collision on September 11, 2016 near 1500 East 1st Street.

Jason Gambler, 37, was pushing a shopping cart containing scrap metal eastbound on East 1st Street in the roadway around 6:40 p.m. Tarra Nicholson, 45, was driving eastbound and hit Gambler as her car crested the hill, a police report states.

Gambler was transported to St. John Health System with serious injuries resulting in the amputation of both legs below the knee. He  is expected to survive his injuries, according to police.

The traffic investigators noted he is homeless.

The report states Nicholson was not intoxicated and appeared to be driving safely, within the speed limit, and within a single lane.  It is not anticipated at this time that she will face any charges, police said.
