After a short delay, Tulsa's Columbus Elementary School was back in session Friday after a lightning strike knocked out power earlier in the morning.

Tulsa Public Schools says a janitor arrived to find the school at 10620 East 27th Street partially without power.

The district said lightning had struck one of the school's three wings, leaving two classrooms without power as the school day began.

The school's principal said student who use those two classroom spent the morning elsewhere in the building.

Since the lightning strike happened before the first bell, the school said it kept students outside until the fire department said it was safe to go inside.

A major concern with parents was the impact for students who eat breakfast and lunch at the school.

"Food had been prepared before the lightning strike because our child nutrition folks get in so early so that was ready to go,"  said Blaine Young with Tulsa Public Schools.

The school district said it worked Public Service Company of Oklahoma to get the power back up and running at Columbus.
