New T-shirts giving citizens a chance to show they "Back the Blue" made an appearance on Guthrie Green in the Tulsa Brady Arts District Wednesday. City Councilor Karen Gilbert said T-shirt sales go to support the Tulsa Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary, an organization for family members of Tulsa Police officers.
The shirts feature the words "I Heart TPD" on the front and #BackTheBlue on the reverse.
Gilbert said Wednesday's event was the debut for the new shirts, but they plan to offer them for sale at other community events.

One of those is the upcoming Patriot Day Event scheduled for September 11 at Dave & Buster's, 6812 South 105th East Avenue in Tulsa.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Patriot Day is held on 9/11 to honor the lives lost and forever changed in the terrorist attacks in 2001. It is also an opportunity to show appreciation for members of the military, law enforcement, fire, rescue and emergency medical services - not just those in Tulsa but across the state.
The event is sponsored in part by Sheep Dog Impact Assistance, referring to military personnel and emergency responders who protect the public.
There will be military and first responder vehicles at the event as well as interactive displays and family events.
