Tulsa’s Great Raft Race is just a few days away and it’s got many people excited, even those not riding down the river.

Carnegie Elementary students are too young to actually participate in the race itself, but it’s not stopping them from helping build a raft.

Cathy Essley has three fifth grade classes working on this year's entry; they’re calling it the Un-Titanic 2.

“Have you ever seen the Titanic? We don’t want it to sink,” they said.

They’re working together to come up with the best design to keep the raft afloat.

"It is fun to watch them solve the problems," Essley said.

One of the problems they’re trying to solve is the weight issue.

"Last year the crew was lighter. It's not because they're eating too much, it's because we have a different crew," they said.

The second year of the revival of Tulsa's Great Raft Race sets sail on Monday, which is Labor Day. Participants will float from Sand Springs to Tulsa.
