A couple of showers may continue for the next few hours early per-dawn this morning to the northwest of the Metro, but our weather across northeastern OK will be dominated by mostly sunshine and hot temperatures today.

WARN Interactive Radar

This will end up being the hottest day of the week with daytime highs near 94-97 and heat index values near or slightly above 100.  South to southwest wind at 15 to 25 miles per hour will remain across Eastern Oklahoma today. Hot temperatures will continue today and basically tomorrow with morning lows in the 70s and highs in the mid-90s Thursday, but a weak boundary will be nearing the area Thursday night and Friday, and will provide for a few scattered showers and storms through part of the weekend for the northern sections. GFS data continue to be aggressive with Friday storms regarding the coverage.  Our chances will remain around 30-40% Friday.

A mid-level ridge of high pressure that is centered across the southeastern portion of the nation will slowly move eastward during this period.  A few weak disturbances will rotate around the bottom portion of the ridge and across East Texas into Southeastern Oklahoma Friday and Saturday. Significant low-level moisture in the form of 70-degree dew point temperatures should stream from the Gulf of Mexico into Eastern Oklahoma. This deeper moisture will provide a chance for showers and storms Friday and for part of the weekend, with the highest chances positioned across Eastern Oklahoma and Western Arkansas. The tropical air mass may also produce heavy downpours, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning coming and one or two strong to near severe storms. But the threat of severe weather will remain very low with his system.  Extended data this morning also keeps a signal for a few storms near the eastern part of the state early next week.

Temperatures this weekend will remain warm with muggy conditions prevailing. Morning lows will be in the lower 70s and daytime highs near 90. South Winds at 10 to 15 miles per hour will keep the moisture entrenched across Eastern Oklahoma and heat induces into the mid-nineties.

Thanks for reading this Wednesday morning discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
