For the second year in a row, Tulsa Public School will have a teacher in every classroom for the first day of school.
Despite a shortage of teachers, TPS was able to fill about 286 vacancies; last year the district had to fill almost 500 open spots.

Superintendent Dr. Deborah Gist made the announcement Thursday, saying every student deserves a quality teacher in the classroom.
“Our team was tireless in their efforts to hire and place great educators into our schools and classrooms,” she said. “This was truly a collaborative effort among everyone on our team, and they worked tirelessly to fill every teacher vacancy.”
According to a news release, TPS currently has about 2,800 certified teaching positions.
