Two witnesses to a crime helped police capture suspected car thieves in Broken Arrow Sunday. Police said one of the people tackled a suspect and another followed led officers to where a suspect was hiding.

Jonathan Robert Winters and a juvenile male were both taken into custody early Sunday, records show.

Police said a resident in the 1800 block of West Kent Place saw two men drive away in his gold 2006 Chevy HHR around 7:40 a.m. The victim got into another car and followed the men to the intersection of Washington and Aspen where they got out of the car and ran, police said.

Both men had to get out of the driver's side of the car because the passenger side wouldn't open, an arrest report states. The victim caught up with a juvenile suspect and tackled him. The second man, identified as Jonathan Winters, got away.

A witness who was driving by the intersection followed Winters to where he hid on a porch in the 1600 block of South Redbud - and stayed there until police arrived, the report states. Police said Winters, 19, had been driving the stolen car.

He was booked on a complaint of car theft.
