Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports one person is dead in a crash about three miles northwest of Welch. State troopers said the crash took place just before 10 a.m. Sunday on County Road 90 and 4410 Road in Craig County.
A collision report states a 16-year-old Welch boy was driving southbound on County Road South 4410 when he failed to yield to the vehicle on the right and hit a car driven by Robert Thulin, a 50-year-old Welch resident.
Thulin had three children in his 2000 Ford Explorer: 5-, 6- and 9-year-old girls. Troopers said the children were not properly restrained and were thrown from the vehicle.
The 5-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene from massive injuries. The 6-year-old girl was admitted to a Tulsa hospital in poor condition with head and other injuries. The 9-year-old girl was flown to a hospital in Tulsa.
The report said two of the girls weren't buckled in and the third was in a child seat that was not buckled to the vehicle.
The girls are all Miami residents, according to the collision report. OHP did not release any names other than the adult male driver due to their ages.
Both drivers were in apparently normal condition at the time of the crash, troopers said. Neither was injured.
The collision report notes that the roadway is gravel and was dusty at the time of the crash.
