After being trapped in the spillway below Lake Hudson, GRDA spokesperson Justin Alberty says the two people have been rescued.
Three rescuers in an inflatable raft went upstream of the rocks for the rescue, according to Alberty.
It was tied in a couple of different locations and was worked down to the rocks where one of the rescuers got out and got the couple into the boat. Then, one of the trucks on the bank used its winch to pull the boat back.
The couple had been fishing at the site when GRDA started releasing water from Kerr Dam and didn't notice the rising water the GRDA spokesperson explained.
According to GRDA, there is a horn to warn people of water releases and it is audible at the location where the people were stuck. GRDA has fined people in the past that wound up in similar situations but there’s no word yet if that is going to happen in this case.
