The Grand River Dam Authority said a body was recovered from the Illinois River Thursday.
They said a 66-year-old man was swimming with friends near the Chewey Bridge when he started struggling.
According to reports, the man went under twice and resurfaced, but when he went under a third time he never returned.
GRDA said the body was found in about four feet of water 35 minutes later by the people he was with.
They have not released the name of the victim.
