A bike sharing system, which is a nonprofit partnership of public and private organizations, has taken another step forward this week by hiring its first executive director.

As the head of Bike Share, a news release says Daniel Sperle will lead a fundraising campaign, facilitate a “request for proposals” process with bike share vendor companies and collaborate with the City of Tulsa and others to receive federal, state and other grant funds for bike sharing.

Bike Share provides kiosks and docking stations with bikes around downtown Tulsa where patrons purchase an amount of time on the bike by scanning a debit or credit card or a membership card.

“Bike Share offers a fun and versatile alternative for connecting people to their destinations,” Sperle said in a statement. “It allows our community and visitors to explore freely; to see more of the great attractions that our growing city has to offer.”

Sperle is a native Tulsan who graduated from the OU Urban Design Studio master's program, the release says.
