Tulsa firefighters responded to a house fire in the 2600 block of South Yorktown. A neighbor said he saw heavy smoke as he jogged by the home.
It appears ashes dumped in a kitchen trash can started the fire, according to a firefighter at the scene. The residents, an elderly couple, called it in and got out of the home safely, the firefighter said.
When firefighters arrived, there was heavy smoke, and it took about 15 minutes to get the house fire out. They said it appears the home will be a total loss.
The large, ranch-style home has high ceiling which firefighters say contributed to the fire's spread.
No one was injured.
