Jenks High School students will notice a big change on campus when they head back to class in a couple weeks.
School leaders broke ground Tuesday on a brand new dining hall that's nearly twice the size of the old one. The old cafeteria had been around since 1967 and was torn down earlier this summer.
School leaders say the district is growing, and 1,300 students will be able to eat at once at the new Central Campus Dining Hall.
"Students that have had an opportunity to see the drawings and see the plans, just stand and look in awe of, 'wow, we're going from that cafeteria to this dining hall,'" said Dr. Stacey Butterfield, Jenks Superintendent.
Construction won't be finished until next June, so students will eat in the Trojan Activity Center this upcoming school year.
