A man is recovering after a doctor removed a bullet lodged in his face. Police say he's the second person injured by falling bullets on Independence Day.

Branon Vaughan said he was walking to his car after Monday night's FreedomFest. As he crossed the street, the bullet hit him.

At the time, he didn't know what it was, but the pain brought him to his knees. He said if felt like being hit with a metal bat.

"It entered right here and it slipped between the tissues, so it's in between my inner and outer cheek," he said.

For nearly two days, Vaughan has had a bullet lodged in his chin.

His face is swollen and bruised, but considering a bullet fell from the sky and hit him, he's doing OK.

"It hurt. It felt like a baseball bat, a metal baseball bat. It just, the reverberation. My face was like flat against a wall, it felt like running against a wall," Vaughn said.

Late Monday night, he and his friends were leaving the annual FreedomFest fireworks show. While crossing the street at 18th and Boston, something hit him.

The swelling has gone down, but it still hurts.

Initially, he thought he ran into a light pole but didn't see anything.

Vaughan said, "Every doctor that looked at me, they had to look at the CAT scan to believe there was a bullet in there."

He said celebrating is fun, but anybody with a gun should respect it.

"When it's like 80,000 people there and you put a firearm off in the sky, at some point it’ll be revealed to you to that it was reasonable to think that, that's dangerous," he said.

Police ask anyone with information on who fired the shot that hit Vaughan, or the one that hit a young boy in the head the same night, to come forward.
