Thousands of folks gathered in downtown Tulsa to celebrate the 4th of July with a run - the Firecracker 5K. Nearly 2,000 people were expected to show up Monday morning for the event.

"It's a 3.2 mile party," said runner Jennifer Kuntz. Kuntz is a member of Team Red, White and Blue. She trained for this all summer.

"Most of us run a little bit long distance, but I know I've been on a treadmill all summer."

Christina White said she just wanted to finish the race strong.

"I'm just kind of starting out, so if I can get in the 20s, I'll be so happy," she said.

The first runner who crossed the finish line was Baylor Harvey of Broken Arrow.

"A lot of speed work but mainly, just a lot of mileage," he said of his training regime. "Just keeping pushing and never relax. Just never really back down for a second or so."

The runners said it's about something more - celebrating our freedom on America's 240th birthday.

"Everybody loves American," said Jennifer Kuntz. "We love coming out and celebrating it. It's the best nation."
