A group of local cheerleaders is keeping their spirits high, despite having thousands of dollars of fireworks stolen from their booth.

They were selling them as a fundraiser, and now the Green Country community is stepping in to help them out.

Sometimes it gets a little hot and the hours a little long, but for the cheerleaders from the Spirit Explosion junior squad, selling the fireworks allows them to pursue their passion all year long.

But when thieves lifted $2,000 worth of fireworks from the girls, it put everything in jeopardy.

"This is our first one that we're trying to get off the ground, and it was just disappointing to have stuff stolen - $2,000 in the first two nights," parent Michelle Rogers said.

The fundraiser was supposed to help girls like 12-year-old Trinity Tran get uniforms.

“It was really sad because we worked really hard to do this," Tran said. "And just to think that someone would come out here and do that, it's sad."

Parents who work there with their daughters believe the thieves knew what they were going after because they took the most expensive fireworks.

"It comes out of our end, of what we would have made," said parent Tammy Womble.

Thankfully, the team has gotten $200 in donations and sold $800 of fireworks since the robbery, but it’s still not enough to get them out of the hole.

"We'll just have to have more fundraisers,” Womble said. “We’re going to finish what we start. We’re going to finish our commitment.

The parents are determined to send their girls a positive message - no matter what the adversity you find a way to triumph.

The group said they have increased security at the tent.

They will be selling fireworks through the weekend at 9520 Hillcrest Drive in Broken Arrow.

You can also send donations to PO Box 402, Catoosa, OK 74015.
