Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett announced a new Route 66 Commission that will focus on increasing traffic and economic development along the historic highway through Tulsa.
City leaders say Route 66 is worldwide destination and an important part of Tulsa's history.
The new Route 66 Commission was created by an executive order and will have 15 members. Their first priority will be to add more signs along the mother road, as it winds its way through Tulsa.
They also want to encourage more people who are driving along Route 66 to stop, shop, eat and spend the night in Tulsa.
Campbell Hotel owner, Aaron Meek said, "Tulsa has a huge advantage if they'll just take advantage of it. We have a lot of roadway in Tulsa of Route 66.
The historic road stretches more than 400 miles across Oklahoma.
