Tulsa's Domestic Violence Intervention Services has given a Tulsa high school coach and a youth mentor their Heart Award.

The award was presented recently to Central High basketball coach Eli K. Brown III and youth mentor Keith Miller.  DVIS says the award recognizes Brown and Miller for their ongoing commitment to educating athletes about healthy relationships through implementation of the Coaching Boys Into Men program.

Coaching Boys into Men is a free leadership program that partners with athletic coaches to help young male athletes practice respect towards themselves and others.

“I am thrilled to receive the DVIS Heart Award.  I work very hard to make sure my players are positioned for success on the court and in life. The Coaching Boys Into Men Program has allowed me to address important issues surrounding respect and healthy relationships. I look forward to seeing the lessons we learned throughout this program utilized in my player’s lives,” Eli Brown said.

Keith Miller noted that he has been constantly inspired by a quote from Martin Luther King Jr. which states, “the time is always right to do the right thing.”
