A man passed away after his car hydroplaned on wet pavement and hit a light pole on Highway 75 Wednesday afternoon.

Troopers said it happened just before 3:00 p.m. near 23rd Street South.

They said a 2004 Toyota Tacoma driven by 57-year-old Robert Buschmann was headed north on I-244 when he lost control, left the roadway and hit a concrete support for an overhead sign.

Troopers said the truck then struck a light pole.

According to troopers, they believe weather played a factor in the crash, but were not sure about speed.

Buschmann was taken to the hospital with several injures.

He passed away just before 8:00 p.m.
