The Oklahoma Department of Transportation says one of its employees was killed in a work zone on Wednesday morning.
Jarrell Gray, Transportation Superintendent I in Delaware County for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, was killed on State Highway 20, according to the agency.
“The department is deeply saddened by this work zone tragedy, which is felt by each of his 2,400 coworkers statewide,” a statement says. “Our thoughts are with Gray’s family, friends and fellow crew members during this difficult time. This comes as the department is in an extensive statewide work zone safety campaign.”
Gray was 47 years old and had been with ODOT since December 1998.
The wreck took place on west of Jay in Delaware County, while Gray was supervising a brush removal project on Highway 20.
Gray is the 60th employee killed in the line of duty in the department’s history.
The cause and details of this work zone accident are currently under investigation by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, ODOT says.
