Golden Hurricane To Host UConn In Final Weekend Series

The Tulsa softball team plays its final conference series of the season this weekend against American Athletic Conference foe UConn Friday through Sunday at the Collins Family Softball Complex.
 
The Golden Hurricane (29-18, 6-9 American) and Huskies (19-28, 4-9 American) will play at 5 p.m. Friday, 3 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday. The TU senior class – Kaitlin Allen, Jodi Edmiston,Catherine Horner, Jocelyn Sheffield and Caitlin Sill – will be recognized in a ceremony following the game on Sunday. Sheffield will sing the national anthem prior to Sunday's game.
 
Tickets are $5 general admission for each game. Live video and live stats for all three games will be available on www.TulsaHurricane.com.
 
Tulsa and UConn have played four times. Tulsa leads the series, 4-0. The Golden Hurricane won all four meetings last season, including three in Storrs, and one in the American Conference Tournament. TU defeated the Huskies, 5-2, 8-0 and 9-0 in the regular season, before claiming a 1-0 victory in the conference tournament.
 
Junior third baseman Maggie Withee leads Tulsa with a .379 batting average, and has totaled 43 runs, eight doubles, 20 walks and a .448 on-base percentage. Freshman designated player Julia Hollingsworth hits .352, has totaled 26 RBI and 25 runs and posted a .413 on-base percentage. Sophomore shortstop Shelby Estocado hits .331 with a team-high 11 home runs and .632 slugging percentage, and has seven doubles, 37 RBI and 41 runs. Freshman second basemanMorgan Neal hits .308 with seven extra base hits and 25 runs scored. Junior left fielder Maddie Withee leads Tulsa with 43 RBI, and hits .307 with six doubles and six home runs.
 
Senior Caitlin Sill leads Tulsa in the circle with a 2.00 ERA and a 16-10 record. She has allowed 44 earned runs and 152 hits in 153.2 innings. Sophomore Emily Watson is 10-8 with a 2.59 ERA, has 149 strikeouts and has allowed 39 earned runs on 87 hits and a .216 opponent batting average in 105.1 innings.
 
Tulsa is hitting .293 with 256 runs, 228 RBI, 58 doubles, 26 home runs, eight triples, a .417 slugging percentage and a .374 on-base percentage. The Hurricane pitchers have posted a combined 2.43 ERA with 257 strikeouts in 299.0 innings, and allowed a .247 opponent batting average, 288 hits and 104 earned runs.
 
The American Athletic Conference Championship begins Thursday, May 12 at the Collins Family Softball Complex. The tournament runs May 12-14, and tickets are on sale at the TU Athletics Ticket Office, online at www.TulsaHurricane.com, or by calling 918-631-GoTU. All-session tickets can be purchased for $20 for adults and $10 for youth aged 2-17. Single session tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth.
