Temperatures remain cool across the area with clear sky and light winds. Some additional patchy fog is possible across the valleys and near bodies of water this morning but it should not be as widespread as yesterday morning. We’re looking at great weather for the next few days before the pattern changes bringing thunderstorm chances back to the state. Highs this afternoon will be in the mid-70s along with sunshine and northwest winds near 10 mph.
The main upper pattern features a trough across the east, a ridge in the central sections, and another trough across the far northwest. This pattern will keep the active weather away from the central and southern plains for the next few days. But the pattern will be changing by the weekend bringing the active weather back to the plains.
Friday into Saturday the next upper level system will be nearing the southwestern U.S. before moving northeast across the Rockies Sunday into early next week. This will cause our surface pressure to fall and south to southeast winds will return across the state Friday into the weekend. The initial response of returning moisture will be of low quality. But higher and richer moisture content is expected to move across the area by Sunday into Monday setting the stage for thunderstorm development. Most data support a sharpening dry-line developing and eventually moving eastward both Monday and Tuesday before being swept out of the area by a developing cold front sometime Wednesday. The upper air flow combined with the anticipated low level mass fields will yield increasing thunderstorm chances Sunday into early next week across eastern OK. Saturday may feature a few storms across the high plains of Texas migrating into western OK. The storm chances Monday through Wednesday will also feature the possibility of strong to severe activity.
Temperatures will continue to be cool for the morning lows with readings in the upper 40s and lower 50s today and tomorrow. Highs this afternoon will be in the mid to upper 70s with abundant sunshine. Daytime highs will be nearing the lower 80s Friday through the weekend.
Thanks for reading the Wednesday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day!
