There's a new flathead catfish record on Skiatook Lake.
Donnie Fielden and his friend, Kevin Williams, caught a 65.8-pound flathead on a homemade trot line Saturday. It beats out the old record of 60.6 pounds, which Donnie held will his buddy Chris Thomas.
He caught the new record fish almost exactly five years after the previous, and in the exact same spot.
He said he goes by the moon phase and found he makes his best catches the week before a full moon.
His new record, while impressive, is still a long way from the state record flathead - 78.8 pounds, caught in Lake El Reno.
