Feels Like Spring Across Eastern Oklahoma

Enjoy this beautiful spring day across eastern Oklahoma on Saturday. 

Winds remaining at a moderate breeze (13-18 mph) from the west for most of Saturday and eventually shifting to the northwest by late afternoon.  With full sun, highs should reach into the low 70s, slightly cooler if you’re east of Tulsa. 

Winds will be from the southwest for Sunday. Not as chilly of a start on Sunday with those southwest winds. Highs Sunday will be near 80, wind gusts up to 30 mph and fire danger returning. 

Fire weather watches have been issued for counties north and west of Tulsa, including almost the entire western half of the state.

Despite Green Country “greening up”, fires are still a concern. Fires that start could burn out of control quickly, making them harder to extinguish. Burning is highly discouraged on Sunday. 

With fire danger posing a threat on Green Country once again, let’s look for our next chance of rain. It is setting up to a pretty quiet one, considering it’s spring in Oklahoma.  A cool front coming through early Wednesday morning will bring in a chance for passing showers and a few storms. 

The chances are best during the mid-morning hours. Unfortunately, this system will not have a lot of moisture to work with and atmospheric instability parameters are not aggressive with overnight activity. 

Any storms that do form will most likely stay below severe limits, however this is spring in Oklahoma. 

Things will start to get interesting next week with a stronger system moving in. There are still a lot of details that need to be sorted out but until then, let’s enjoy this weather!
