City crews also closed Mingo from 46th to 56th Streets for part of the day because several structures in that block were damaged.
In the same area of north Tulsa, the tornado blew apart a car wash at 46th Street and MLK but left The Freeze restaurant almost untouched just feet away.
McLain High School didn’t appear to be damaged, but a garage next door was torn to pieces.
Just down the street, several people were taking cover inside a Tulsa community center.
Gwendolyn Sewell lives in San Antonio but was in town visiting her mother Wednesday night when she had to take shelter with several families at the Dream Center.
"The basketball coach got all the kids and lined them up very orderly - they did not know what was going on - and took them out. We went into the room, we got down,” she said. “The lady said, 'What did you learn in school?' They said ‘we're supposed to go down cover our heads.’ We then took the tables and put them over the kids."
No one was hurt at the Dream Center, but the building had damage to the roof and warehouse.
