Federal prosecutors have charged Union Public Schools' assistant band director James Wilson with possessing child pornography and attempting to sexually exploit a minor.
U.S. Marshals arrested Wilson on Wednesday.
His biography page on Union Schools' website says Wilson is the director of Union's eighth-grade band. He also works with the high school. Wilson spent four years teaching at Sand Springs Schools and also taught at Jenks High School.
Marshals took Wilson to the Creek County jail instead of the Tulsa County jail this afternoon, and investigators say they did so for his own safety.
The district released a statement saying, "Union Public Schools has suspended assistant band instructor James Wilson after learning of his arrest and arraignment in federal court today on child pornography charges. Wilson was hired by the district in August of 2012. The district will continue to cooperate with law enforcement authorities as they conduct their investigation."
News On 6 reporter Annie Chang was in the courtroom today and is following this story closely. We will keep you updated throughout the evening.
