Sand Springs Police are searching for a man who they say sexually assaulted a woman while pretending to be an officer of the law.

Police tell News On 6 the man stopped the woman near west 44th Street and Spruce.

She told police the man made her get out of the car and then he sexually assaulted her. After acting like he was running her license and insurance, he told her to get out of the car and then groped her before leaving, she said.

The man was driving a white Chevrolet Tahoe with lights on the top and in the grill.

He is described as a white man in his early 30s, between 5-foot-9 and and 6-foot-tall with short, spiky hair and dressed in all black with a fake cloth badge sewn on his shirt, police say.

Police say if someone tries to pull you over in a vehicle matching that description, keep moving, obey the traffic laws and call 911 to make sure it is a legitimate police officer initiating the stop.
