Restoration On Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge To Begin

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says it will begin restoring the Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge damaged by torrential rains last May and June.

The heavy rains caused widespread flooding throughout Texas and Oklahoma, affecting nine national wildlife refuges and a national fish hatchery in both states.

The Tishomingo refuge received the most extensive damage in Oklahoma, with about 85 percent of the refuge underwater for nearly three months.

The Oklahoman newspaper reports that the area is still in pretty bad shape, even though portions of the refuge were re-opened to the public.

Many visitor use facilities, such as trails, observation platforms and access routes, remain closed due to flood damage.
