Chilly Mornings For The Start Of Spring In Oklahoma

It was a cold start Saturday morning and many locations around Green Country had morning lows below freezing. 

We will have to take care of our sensitive plants again Saturday night as temperatures are expected to fall below freezing once again. A freeze warning is in effect from 1 a.m. until 9 a.m. Sunday. 

Even more locations Sunday morning will be impacted by the colder temperatures. A freeze watch extends as far south and Pittsburg and Latimer counties, plus a few more.

Light winds at night, clear skies and low dew points are allowing temperatures to dip so far. 

On average our last freeze for Tulsa is March 29, so this really isn’t anything out of the ordinary. 

We will go from cold morning to hot afternoons by Tuesday. 

Strong south winds will “kick the dust up” for the start of next week. Temperatures will climb and so will fire danger. Green Country is starting look a little more green but fire potential is still high from Monday through Wednesday of next week. 

A storm system coming in on Wednesday will bring rain and storm chances to the area plus cooler air through Thursday. It will only be temporary. 

Spring officially begins Saturday at 11:30 p.m. but you’ll have to wait 36 hours (give or take a few) before it feels like spring.  Wait another 24 hours after that and it will feel almost like summer! Once again, it’s only temporary.
