Michigan will be at a decided advantage when it comes to fans in Dayton. But maybe not, because one thing people in Ohio dislike a lot is Michigan.
"Go Blue" before the First Four showcases plenty of Maize and Blue fans already in the crowd. Tulsa fans are not to be found but they may have some wearing scarlet and gray.
"You guys are playing that team up north and around this part we don't want to say their name, so you'll have a lot of support tonight in Dayton," said Ohio State fan Dave Schriml.
Ohio State grad Will Cale added, "You'll have more support tonight than you've had all year. I can assure you when Michigan plays their fight song, we will all boo. When you all play your fight song, we will all cheer."
But Michigan Coach John Beilein says he's used to it and expects a neutral crowd.
"I think everybody assumes because we're close by, we're a Midwestern team [and] people would gravitate to us,” explained Beilein. “I do not expect that to happen. These are college basketball fans here that come to this game. You'll have Michigan fans [and] you'll have Tulsa fans, but college basketball fans. Most of them reside in the state of Ohio."
I hope they do boo Hail to the Victors because a couple others and I are about all Tulsa has, that and all the scarlet and gray.
