On Tuesday, University of Tulsa head football coach Philip Montgomery and quarterback Dane Evans addressed the media to discuss the team’s first day of spring practice and preparation for the upcoming season.
Montgomery and his team are excited to get back to work.
“[I’m] like a kid in a candy store, ready to go back to work,” said Montgomery. “They’re excited; we’re excited. Today will be full of energy and anticipation to get out and go.
Last season, the Golden Hurricane improved greatly under Montgomery's leadership but he says it’s only the beginning.
“Obviously, we accomplished one of our goals but we still have a lot of goals out there,” he stated. “The thing that we’ve talked about all winter, is just, we’ve set a standard now. Now, it’s about building and creating an atmosphere where we raise that standard each and every day.”
TU mainstay Dane Evans says the team has expanded its offense.
“We’ve already put in some new stuff, and our board of plays that we have this year going into spring is about 15 times bigger than it was going into spring last year,” said the quarterback. “We’re not starting from scratch; we have a good base to build on.”
He added, “We had a decent year last year, but we don’t just want to be six and six again and end it with six and seven. We want a lot more than that.”
