The City of Muskogee named Michael O’Dell as the city's new fire chief Wednesday.
The announcement comes after current chief, Derek Tatum announced earlier this month he was retiring on January 29.
In a news release, Interim City Manager Roy Tucker says he has every confidence in the 26 ½ -year veteran of the Muskogee Fire Department.
““Chief O’Dell is a proven leader that will make an excellent Fire Chief. I feel that we have an exceptional Fire Department and I am confident it will grow even stronger under Chief O’Dell’s leadership,” said Roy Tucker.
The city says O’Dell has been with the Muskogee Fire Department for more than 26 years and was serving as the Training Officer for the fire department.
“I am excited and humbled to be appointed as the Fire Chief of the Muskogee Fire Department. We have a very strong department that provides a high level of service to the citizens of Muskogee; it is an honor to lead such a progressive department,” said Michael O'Dell.
