Some Tulsa Public School students are learning Mariachi music, a traditional folk music of Mexico. The classes began last November at several campuses including East Central Junior High School.
On Wednesday, the media was invited to sit in on a Mariachi class where seventh graders practice on violin, guitar and trumpet.
TPS said the classes began after Saied Music Company sponsored a Mariachi workshop for teachers.
The Greater Hispanic Chamber of Commerce partnered with TPS to help with fundraising and other program needs, a news release states.
