The treasurer of the Cherokee Nation has been appointed to a U.S. Department of Treasury committee.
The tribe says Treasurer Lacey Horn was appointed to the Treasury Department's Tribal Advisory Committee. She will join two other Native Americans on the seven-person committee that advises federal treasury officials on taxing American Indians and training Internal Revenue Service field agents.
Horn has served as treasurer for the Cherokee Nation since 2011 and overseen an annual budget of more than $700 million.
Cherokee Nation Principal Chief John Baker praised Horn's appointment.
“Lacey Horn's experience and leadership will be an invaluable asset to the U.S. Treasury’s tribal committee,” said Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Bill John Baker.
“I applaud the agency for creating this advisory panel to better address the unique issue facing tribal governments and Native people. Treasurer Horn will be an advocate for growing the economic strength of Indian Country, furthering understanding of sovereign tribal nations and enhancing the relationships between tribes and other governments.”
Horn previously worked at KPMG as a senior audit associate in financial services and in the internal audit and tax departments of Hunt Oil.
