Two people were hurt when a driver ran off the road and struck a tree early Sunday morning in Tulsa. The wreck took place just after 1 a.m. on 71st Street near Yale Avenue.

Police said the 36-year-old male driver was westbound on 71st Street when he lost control, went airborne and hit a tree. The driver had non-life threatening head injuries, officers say. A woman riding in the car had leg injuries.

She told police she'd just told the driver to slow down when he hit the center median and launched into the tree.

Both were taken to the hospital. The intersection was closed for about an hour as the wreck was cleaned up and investigated.
