What started off as a Sunday morning hit-and-run ended with the arrest of a kidnapping suspect.
According to the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office, around 4:00 Sunday morning a semi-truck headed west on Interstate 40 was rear-ended by another vehicle.
Sheriff Ron Lockhart said the semi pulled over, but the other vehicle left the scene. Deputy Jeremy Walters was informed and located the vehicle east of Sallisaw.
The report says Walters tried to pull over the vehicle, but it sped away. Around the 308 mile marker, just west of Sallisaw, the sheriff said the driver, Theodore Redman, attempted a U-turn and crashed into a cable barrier.
Redman was taken into custody and deputies said they found a female passenger inside the car who told them she had been kidnapped at gunpoint from Little Rock, Arkansas around 8:00 Saturday night..
Sheriff Lockhart said they confirmed the information with Little Rock Police who also told them during the kidnapping, Redman had fired shots at the victim’s mother.
According to reports, a firearm was recovered from Redman’s vehicle.
The sheriff said the woman is being treated at a local hospital and Redman is being held in the Sequoyah County jail.
