Two students have died, others were injured when a Houston School District bus fell off an Interstate highway Tuesday morning.
Two other students and the bus driver were seriously injured and taken to the hospital. Information about their conditions was not immediately available.
Fire officials tell KHOU, the CBS affiliate in Houston, a female student was pronounced dead at the scene.
Houston school officials say the bus was on its way to Furr High School when it crashed.
Investigators with the Houston Police Department said a late-model Buick LeSabre on the left-hand side of the bus thought that a car was going to drift into their lane. The Buick then shift over into the school bus to avoid the other vehicle.
At that time, the school bus driver tried to avoid the Buick and over-correct and ended up falling off the overpass and onto the frontage road below.
"We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and the loss of one of our students," said Houston School Superintendent Terry Grier. "I ask all of the Houston School community to join me in praying for all of those involved."
The crash is under investigation by Houston School Police and the Houston Police Department.
