A Tulsa teen accidentally shot himself for the second time in three months, according to Tulsa Police. An officer able to save the boy's life by applying a tourniquet, according to police records.

Police say the 16-year-old male accidentally shot himself in the left leg Sunday afternoon in the 7300 block of East Jasper Street. When Officer Brian Wilson got to the home, he said the teen was conscious but incoherent, and there was a large amount of blood on the bed sheet. Wilson feared the boy had a severed artery and applied a tourniquet, stanching the blood flow.

The teen was taken to a Tulsa emergency room where police were told the bullet had severed an artery.

"Officer Wilson's quick action saved the victim's life by preventing him from bleeding to death," Sergeant Steve Stoltz said. He said it was the second time the teen had accidentally shot himself, both times in the leg.

The first wound wasn't life threatening, according to police.
