A small cluster of thunderstorm activity located across part of west-central OK will move eastward over the next few hours and could survive the trip into part of eastern OK this morning before dissipating. We will keep some storm chances in the forecast for the morning hours due to this system. Otherwise we’re anticipating another pattern change this week bringing warmer air back to the state. Highs today will move into the lower to mid-80s along with gusty south winds at 15 to 28 mph. This warmer air pattern will remain for the entire week before another front moves into the state Friday or Saturday.
The upper air flow will be characterized by a mid-level ridge of high pressure developing across the southern and southeastern U.S. while a broad upper level trough will form across the Pacific Northwest. The result will be a southwesterly upper air flow moving across the southern and central plains for the next few days. The reflection of this pattern at the surface will be characterized with south winds, slowly increasing low level moisture, and warmer air for both morning lows and afternoon highs. A weak disturbance may eject from the southwest Wednesday but should remain too far west to impact eastern OK. It appears our better chances for showers and storms ( other than this morning) may occur late this week as a surface front will near the area either Friday or early Saturday morning with increasing rain and storm chances. The upper air flow is not expected to push this front too far south of the area later this week, and this would keep the storm chances and mild air into the forecast for next weekend as the surface boundary stalls across part of northern OK.
Temperatures this morning will start in the upper 60s and end in the mid to upper 80s along with strong to gusty south winds at 15 to 28 mph. Morning lows will gradually move into the lower 70s by midweek with daytime highs in the upper 80s. A few 90s may be reached Thursday and Friday as southerly winds may briefly veer from the southwest during the afternoon periods. Temperatures this weekend will cool only slightly with morning lows in the lower to mid-60s and highs in the lower 80s. We’ll include increasing storm chances Friday, and more so Friday night and Saturday morning.
Thanks for reading the Monday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day!
