A Tulsa event will raise money to benefit the Sickle Cell Foundation of Oklahoma. The State of the Mind dinner and pageant will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday, September 12.
September is Sickle Cell Awareness month, and the September Gala will be held at the Cornerstone Community Church, 4122 West 55th Place. The group is asking for a $20 donation. It's a "white out" event with $100 to the best-dressed couple wearing white. Ralph's Menswear is also donated door prizes.

Sickle Cell Disease is an inherited blood disorder that affects red blood cells. It's found primarily in those of African descent but has increasing numbers among Hispanics, Native Americans and Caucasians. There are several types of SCD, and a simple blood test can determine whether the trait has been inherited.
Tickets to the State of the Mind Pageant can be purchased at Ralph's Menswear, 736 East 36th Street North, or by calling Kyamron Jefferson at 918-428-8373.
