The effort to put backpacks for children in every Tulsa Police patrol car is moving forward.

Often times when children are meeting police, it's one of their worst days; being removed from a home for neglect or abuse - it is common for children to be without extra clothes or a toy.

Officer Amy Jensen said, "I asked, you know, 'do you have a backpack? You're their father. You've had them since they were born. Do you have a backpack with their clothes or toys?' 'Yeah, yeah, I've got something,' he says. So we go out to the car, and he hands me McDonald’s bag with the one little toy from their lunch that day. And it hurt to see that."

The group Joy in the Cause has filled several backpacks with books, clothes, coloring books and stuffed animals.

Beginning on the north side of town, patrols cars are beginning to carry the backpacks, but with each bag costing $50, they still need help filling them.
