The Center of the Universe Festival is in full swing, and with the hot temperatures EMSA has been busy.

Already at least two people were taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion and EMSA has responded to multiple heat-related incidents.

Once the sun went down it wasn’t too bad Friday night at the Center of the Universe Festival, but it seems like no matter what you do, you can't quite beat the heat.

Fans and water help, but for people like Brooklyn Hannah, it's still hot.

"Trying to stay in the shade," she said. "But for the most part, it's really hot and miserable, but it's going to be okay."

Based on the large crowd outside at the festival, it wasn’t too hot to want to stay home.

"It is insanely hot out here, but we're still going," Hannah said.

EMSA operations manager Kimberly Richards said, while you're waiting for your bands to take the stage, you can take care of yourself by filling up on water and taking breaks in the shade.

She also said, since it’s an urban festival in the center of downtown, you should take advantage of the AC in restaurants and bars often to prevent from overheating in just minutes.

"This heat is very, very, dangerous, It, it, can cause death if you're out in it too long," said Richards.

It's no secret that Tulsa summer heat is brutal, so EMSA said they brace for an influx of calls during events like the downtown festival.

And since there are so many people scattered across so much space, EMSA crews a patrolling near the stages and everywhere else just in case of an emergency and said everyone else should keep an eye out.

"What I really ask is for the patrons to keep an eye on each other. If you start seeing someone that is acting confused, disoriented, falling, stumbling, not acting right in general, definitely get ahold of security," Richards said.

EMSA said do not overestimate just how hot it is.

They said to be alert when you start getting dizzy or nauseous, and if you just stop sweating, you could possibly be on the verge of having a heat stroke.

There are also misting stations out at the festival, so know where the closest one is just in case.
